ABOUT ABOUT

Under Construction: A New Play Series by Trinity St Players

“Hairy & Sherri” by Adrienne Dawes

A play reading from 2-4pm and an arty party from 4-6pm!

The Trinity St Players invite you to join us for the launch of our New Play Series “Under Construction.” In 2024 we will share two new play readings, by Adrienne Dawes and Michelle A. Alexander. First up, “Hairy & Sherri” by Adrienne Dawes.

ABOUT THE SHOW: Hairy and Sherri (Sharon) are an “adorkable” interracial couple living in gentrified East Austin. When they very graciously and very publicly open their home to Ryshi, a 12-year-old former foster care youth with special needs, Hairy and Sherri are confronted with the horrifying realities of their marriage and “good” intentions. “Hairy & Sherri” was developed in PlySpace’s artist-in-residence program (supported in part by a grant from the National Endowment for the Arts).

ABOUT THE TEAM: Directed by Jenny Larson-Quiñones. The cast features Robert Joseph, Steve Williams, Michelle A. Alexander, khattieQ, and Kenah Benefield

ABOUT THE ARTIST: Adrienne Dawes (she/her/hers) is an award-winning playwright, screenwriter, and producer originally from Austin, TX. Her plays include AM I WHITE, TEEN DAD, and THIS BITCH. Adrienne received her BA from Sarah Lawrence College and MA from University of Arkansas. Awards and fellowships include:  Mid-America Arts Alliance Artists 3/60 Artist Grant, Walter E. Dakin Fellow at Sewanee Writers’ Conference, Alice Judson Hayes Fellow. Her work has been presented by or developed with Theatre Bedlam, New Harmony Project, The Fire This Time Festival, National Black Theatre, and English Theatre Berlin, among others. Adrienne recently staffed on a limited series with Hulu/ABC Signature.

SCHEDULE: Sunday, January 7th play reading at 2pm and art party at 4pm @ the Trinity St Playhouse | 901 Trinity St. 78701
